Very few people know that they can download latest version of iWork for free in 2017, officially.
When I started looking for downloading iWork on my recently bought macbook pro, it was all confusing. I went to the mac app store and it didn’t show any free option to download the iwork apps (including pages, keynote and numbers by apple). If you had the similar situation too, then this article is just for you!

So if you’re wondering how to get pages for free on mac or why is keynote not free on my mac, you will be able to get free keynote for mac free download, full version (not trial) by the end of this tutorial. In fact you’ll be have iWork for mac free download, full version again, not the trial one.
However, we’ll have to start with the iWork 09 trial here. But don’t worry, we won’t be needing to purchase iwork at all, neither do we need to use the iWork 09 serial number :) So lets start!
1. Download iWork 9 from apple and Install
First of all, we need to download iWork 9 from apples server. Why apple server? to confirm that it’s an original version not any hacked or altered one!

(Edgesuite.net is an Akamai network CDN, used by Apple).
Once downloaded, install the iWork 09 on your mac os system.
2. Run Any one app from iWork
This step is optional in my opinion, but listing here as I did so.
You can launch Pages by apple by going to Applications > iWork ’09 and simply click Try instead of buy. It will ask for your email id. I entered my email id and unchecked the option to receive emails from apple though.
3. Launch App Store and update iWork 9 to latest version
Sounds pretty simple right? Simply launch app store and it will show you an option to update iWork apps separately (Pages, Keynote and Numbers). Simply click on update button next to each item or click update all.
Note that you need to quit the opened iWork applications (that we did in last step) to continue.
Note that we need to quit the app and click continue. Do NOT click on skip keynote or page or numbers (any app that’s open).
4. Delete old iWork 9 and use latest Pages, Keynote and Numbers
Confirm that the latest iWork apps, pages, keynote and numbers are installed in your applications folder. You might see both latest apps and also the iWork ’09 folder in your applications folder.
If that’s so, we can simply delete the old iWork 9 apps and continue using the latest iWork apps that we just downloaded for free!
This method to download iWork for free (including pages, keynote and numbers) has been tested and verified by me on my macbook pro running MacOS Sierra (December 2016, should work perfectly in 2017 too).

I have installed the trial version of iWork 09 on my iMac to test if it works correctly and it does. Now I want to buy a serial number, so that I can use it permanently. When I click on the link for purchase I get directed to the Apple site where only newer versions are visible.
Since I use Pages to write and edit manuscripts, the newest version of Pages is of no use to me. I need to be able to use the older version (and yes, I have looked at the newer ones. The functionality has been reduced to a degree that makes it only viable for my Twitter messages).
Where can I download the full version of Pages 09 - or does buying a 'newer' serial number only mean that I can use it to unlock the old trial version I already have?
I just need to make sure that I do not accidentally install the Mickey-Mouse-version on my iMac but the working version of 09. It happened before and I couldn't work for over a week - nightmare.

cdhw, thanks for the speedy reply - perhaps a tad too speedy as this is unfortunately the opposite of what I am looking for. I DO NOT want the newer version of pages because it is useless if you want to actually work with it (like editing). So how to get the new version for an older Mac is the exact opposite of what I need: the OLDER version of pages for a NEW iMac.

You might be right. That was my last resort because that doesn't get here until after Christmas and I was hoping for a download idea. Anyway, it'll get sorted. Thanks for your ideas 🙂

Once you have got hold of a boxed edition of iWork 09 you will probably need to update them to the latest version (iWork 9.3, Pages 4.3 IIRC) before they'll work on a recent version of OS X.

BTW: Are you sure you want to lock yourself into an obsolete piece of software like this? Make sure you have a plan for the day when your Mac dies and Pages 09 simply won't open on macOS 10.99.

iWork 09 was only available on install media, so that is what you will need to purchase.
You will need to be aware of one thing: depending on the OS version you are running, I do not know if the old installer of iWork 09 will still work with the newer OS. I have some older software which is universal, but the installer is PowerPC based and will not work on newer OS versions (as the PPC support was discontinued some years ago). I also do not know if the app store will update your initial versions or might try to overwrite it with the new versions.
FWIW, I've had iWork 09 installed for years and still use it; I have tried the new stand-alone versions and have decided against them (except for Numbers, which is ok). I have both versions installed and ignore the new one.

How to Eliminate iWork '09 Serial Number Prompt
Apple customers using the company’s productivity suite, iWork ‘09, have reported that, in some rare cases, the serial number prompt won’t go away, even after installing the full version of the software.
The company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California informs that, although installing the full version of iWork should allow customers to start using Pages, Keynote and Numbers without problems, in some cases the installation process may be blocked by a dialog asking the user to input their serial number.
“Installing iWork '09 from DVD should bypass the prompt for a serial number,” reads a Support document from Apple titled iWork '09: Install disc may prompt for serial number.
The Mac maker acknowledges that, “However, in some cases the prompt for the serial number remains after the installation.”
Customers needn’t worry, though. According to Apple’s software engineers, “This may happen if a trial version of iWork '09 is already installed and it is a higher version number than the one being installed from DVD.”
The resolution is fairly simple. Basically users need to delete a couple of files. However, not everyone will know where to locate them.
The proper procedure, as outlined by Apple themselves, is:
1. In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Applications. 2. Locate the "iWork '09" folder and drag it to the Trash. 3. Click the Go menu once again and and choose Go to Folder. 4. In the prompt, type: /Library 5. Click the Go button. 6. Open the Application Support folder. 7. Locate the "iWork '09" folder and drag it to the Trash. 8. Return to /Library using the back arrow in the Finder window. 9. Open the Preferences folder. 10. Locate the files "com.apple.iWork09.plist" and "com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist" and drag these to the trash. 11. Reinstall iWork from your Installation DVD.
iWork ‘09 is Apple’s two-year-old revision of the company’s productivity software.
Including three office applications - Pages, Keynote, and Numbers - iWork is also available on the iPad as a stripped down version of the suite with individual downloads for each app.
Mac users can also download Pages, Keynote and Numbers individually, from the Mac App Store. Previously, iWork was sold only as boxed software. The office apps also came with every new Mac (on a disc) if the customer requested it upon purchase.
