Mirror&#;s Edge Catalyst is a platform/course game developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts.

The player is Faith, a young woman with an incredible force. Many new very realistic movements are emerging. The combat phases have also been reworked and are much more extensive and more fluid than the first game.

The game&#;s story is set in the past of the previous installment (Mirror&#;s Edge) in an open world in the sense that there are various possible routes. If you want to be faster, you will need to take more difficult and more dangerous routes. DICE wanted to offer that choice so that everyone can have fun, from simple casual players to players seeking to challenge and perfect themselves.

Mirror&#;s Edge Catalyst runs on the Frostbite Engine 3. The game was made with great care to detailing and the graphical rendering is simply stunning!

The dynamics and realism of the game is incredible. If you liked the previous game, expect to enjoy this one!

I really like the Parkour - running, jumping, sliding - in the Mirror's Edge games. It's very smooth and very satisfying to string together several movements in sequence. The story in this game was okay as well as some of the characters. The animations were good. But there were some things that were disappointing.

I encountered some graphical glitches. The worst one was clipping. Sometimes I would jump to a ledge and my hands would get stuck inside the wall. That made it impossible to pull myself up. On a few occasions, it hampered my ability to progress until I figured an alternate way.

The game was touted as "open world," but it most certainly is not. Although you do have some freedom, the character is relegated to the tops of the buildings with very limited interaction. There really are no "people" only characters with side missions that seem to always be standing on the rooftops just waiting for you to come to help them. You cannot go to ground level - which was, surprisingly, VERY disappointing to me. I wanted to go to street level.

The most disappointing aspect for me was the hand-to-hand fighting mechanics. The character you play, Faith, does not use any weapons, only hand-to-hand combat. And it was VERY poorly done in this game. There are only a few moves available and the actual combat is a joke. The way the characters respond when you hit them is laughable. You can use heavy or light combat and dodge to either side and use jumps of walls or slides to build momentum for greater hit strength, but it's all very simple and unsatisfying. What made it worse was that I just came from playing the game Remember Me which had excellent fighting mechanics. So, the contrast was glaring. I wish they would have taken the time to build a good fighting system. It would have made the game so much better.

It's been a while since I played the original Mirror's Edge, but from what I remember, I like that first game better. This was okay and the visuals are nice, but there were too many disappointments to give it anything higher than 2 out of 5 stars.
