We are in the process of upgrading the OS in use throughout our organization from Windows 7 to Windows During this process, we are testing and certifying to ensure that all applications are working in the new environment. One of our departments has a locally developed application in VB6, which uses Crystal Reports Developer Edition We have the serial number for Crystal Reports, but the registration servers are long gone, and we do not have the 10 digit registration number. What is the current legal status of Crystal Reports Developer Edition ? Am I able to get a registration number? Is the product still supported in any capacity or is it abandonware? I have the registration number for a different team's install of Crystal Reports Developer Edition , but since the teams are separate legal entities, am I violating copyright if I reuse the other team B's registration number with team A's serial number?

Hi Brad,
You should contact SAP Legal, I can't suggest what you do other than to upgrade to supported versions.
CR 8 is so old I don't recall what the problems or if we suggested work arounds.
Just ot be clear, the registration number is 7 or so digits long, the keycode to install what a mix of letters and numbers, which one are you asking about?

Crystal 8 went out of support over 15 years ago when the software was owned by Crystal Decisions (which was bought by BusinessObjects and then by SAP). Also, I'm not entirely sure that Crystal 8 will even run on Windows 10 - at the very least you would probably have to troubleshoot compatibility and run it in Windows XP mode and even then it might not work.

Why don't you byte the bullet and just upgrade to the latest version of CR for VS, then it doesn't need a registration number.

It can do all and more than what your current version does except you can't use the Embedded report Designer, it's no longer supported nor is allowed to be distributed.
But you will then be fully supported on current OS's and DB Client's, printers and everything else that has been update in the paste 15+ years.
As for the registration number there is no way to register that old product now so you would have to get permission to use their registration number.
Nothing you are doing is supported, VB 6 ended support a long time ago also so if you want to be Windows Certified you need to upgrade.

BlackBaud was an OEM partner of ours, you would have to ask them if you can use it.
We have no way to generate a registration number now, it's old technology and the servers that generated the numbers no longer exist so absolutely no way to get one.
No, current versions of SDK no longer work with VB 6 and Microsoft no supports it.
Only option is to upgrade your project to VB or above.
Search our KBA system I found this, use Google to find it:
- 'This product is NOT REGISTERED' appears in 'About' box after registering CR
If you have the keycode it may work for you.
