ArcSoft WebCam Companion

ArcSoft WebCam Companion is an application designed for use with different models of cameras, many of which come shipped with the system.

The application can be considered as bloatware by some, as many manufacturers of laptops include it with laptops and netbook computers. With that said, it has its uses, especially when using conferencing software like Skype.

With ArcSoft WebCam Companion, you can perform different types of manipulations to your webcam feed including adding different masks, frames and cartoon-ish fun.

Apart from the weird and wonderful different effects ArcSoft WebCam Companion can add to a video feed, you can also use the application to monitor a space and record in the event of motion. Or you can simply record action with your web cam. It can also perform adjustments to images such as brightness, contrast and color, along with automatic enhancements. Other tools include flipping and resizing videos.

All in all, ArcSoft WebCam Companion has its uses and though some features may seem childish, it provides a number of features included with the maker of the PC the web camera is installed on.

Features and highlights

  • Direct upload to YouTube
  • Effective monitoring functions
  • Some modes have lots of customization options
  • Flip and rotate web cam feed
  • Can be used for video conferences and Skype

The ArcSoft WebCam Companion 4.0.444 demo is available to all software users as a free download with potential restrictions and is not necessarily the full version of this software.

Usage of 16X DVD-RAM disc (RAM2 disc)
Hardware
  • Fujistu LIFEBOOK
  • Fujistu Stylistic
  • DVD-RAM 2.0 disc (16x speed DVD-RAM)
  • Toshiba optical drive

Solution

DVD Forum* has introduced DVD-RAM2, a DVD-RAM format. The DVD-RAM2 disc, called the RAM2 disc, was released to markets in Spring 2006.

The RAM2 disc is not compatible with optical drives which do not support DVD-RAM2 format, i.e., the optical drive will not be able to access the RAM2 disc if it is inserted into the optical drive. To playback or record data on the RAM2 disc, you have to use an optical drive that supports DVD-RAM2 format. Such optical drives will have the following RAM2 logo:

Please do not use RAM2 disc with your computer if you cannot find RAM2 logo on the optical drive. Always check the format of the disc before you purchase it or put it into your optical drive.

Caution

The following incidents may happen if you put RAM2 disc into the optical drive of your Fujitsu computer which does not bear RAM2 logo:

  • DVD tray may eject automatically and the RAM2 disc may spin for a while.
  • Your computer may stop responding.
  • DVD tray may fail to eject when you press the Load/Eject button.

How to recover from the above incidents

If any of the above incidents happen, please follow the instructions below to remove the RAM2 disc from the optical drive.

  • Press the power button or main switch to turn off the computer. Please read carefully the details of this procedure in the user’s manual of your computer.
  • In the event that the DVD tray is ejected, remove the RAM2 disc from it after the RAM2 disc has stopped spinning.
On the other hand, if the DVD tray is not ejected, insert a long and narrow tip into the hole near the Load/Eject button of the DVD tray to draw out the tray. Remove the RAM2 disc from the tray after the RAM2 disc has stopped spinning. If you cannot find the hole on the tray, press the power button to restart your computer and immediately press the Load/Eject button (this must be done within 5 seconds) to draw out the DVD tray. Remove the RAM2 disc from the tray after the RAM2 disc has stopped spinning. Please read carefully the details of this procedure in the user’s manual of your computer.

Please note that when a RAM2 disc is spinning in an ejected DVD tray, do not touch it or attempt to remove it from the tray. Always wait for the RAM2 disc to stop spinning before removing it from the tray. If you touch or attempt to remove a spinning RAM2 disc in the ejected tray, you may injure your hand and fingers.

Recommendations

If you have any of the above Fujitsu computers, we recommend that you download the Firmware Update Tool. This Firmware Update Tool will automatically check the possibility of the above incidents occurring based on the type of DVD optical drive of your computer, and will upgrade the optical drive firmware if applicable.

Please note, however, that the upgraded firmware does not make the optical drive compliant to DVD-RAM2 standard, nor does it make the optical drive compatible with RAM2 disc. The upgraded firmware can help to prevent the occurrence of the above incidents when a RAM2 disc is put into your computer DVD optical drive.

Download and run the Firmware Update Tool.

Download and carefully read the detailed firmware upgrade procedure.

When I connect my USB CDROM (FPCCD33AP) or USB CDRW/DVD (FPCDVR26) drive to my T3010/T3010D it will not boot to the USB drive.

Follow these steps to allow your unit to boot to the USB device.

  1. Power on your unit.
  2. When prompted hit the F2 key to get into the BIOS setup.
  3. Along the top of the screen you will see several selections Main, Advanced, Security, Boot, Info, and Exit.
  4. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, highlight the Advanced selection. You will now see several more choices.
  5. Again using the up and down keys on your keyboard go down to the USB Features and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.
  6. You will see two options available on this screen.
    1. Legacy USB support: should be enabled (default value enabled)
    2. SCSI SubClass Support: should be enabled (default value disabled)
  7. Move down to the SCSI option and enable this option by hitting the ENTER key and moving up or down to select enable and then hit the ENTER key.
  8. Once you have enabled both of the USB options press the ESC key and that will return you to the original screen.
  9. Now move to the right until Boot is highlighted and go down to Boot Device Priority and hit the ENTER key.
  10. You will now see a different screen with three devices listed. The default for this screen is Floppy Disk Drive, Hard Disk Drive, and then CD-ROM Drive. This is where you determine the device you want to boot to first.
  11. Using the arrow keys move down and highlight the CD-ROM Drive and then hit the spacebar to move the CD-ROM to the top of the menu. Once this is done hit the ESC key to go back to the main screen.
  12. Move to the right until the Exit is selected and you see Exit Saving Changes highlighted. Hit the ENTER key and you will see a popup screen that says:

    Setup Configuration
Save configuration changes and exit now?
    [Yes] [No]

Ensure the Yes is highlighted and hit the ENTER key. Your unit will now reboot.
  13. Ensure the USB drive is connected to the USB connector on your unit.

The unit will now allow you to boot to the external USB CDROM or CDR/DVD drives.
